transmission on 420 dozer

Post by scotty » Mon Sep 10, 2012 6:12 am

We have a 420 loader dozer and 2nd gear is wore out, were would you fine a transmission for this machine. Located in Ontario, Canada. I suppose it is best just to remove the old transmission and put in a good used one.

No, it is never better to put in a used transmission. What says the used transmission you buy is any different than the one you have? Best is to rebuild the trans you have, buy a rebuilt trans, or buy a used trans and rebuild it.
I probably have the gear on hand.

I couldn't agree more Lavoy. At least by rebuilding the transmission you have, or anything else for that matter, you know exactly what you have when you are done. This is precisely why I do all my own mechanical work. Think about it.....who will put more care into a repair, the guy who owns the equipment that needs repaired or the guy punching a clock everyday and mad because he thinks he is worth more on the hour than he is getting paid.Don't get me wrong, there are good employees punching clocks everyday....but there are just as many who could really care less what kind of job they do. Just my two cents worth.

LarryD,

I agree also. Who will absolutely not leave out a part or a step than the person that owns the piece being worked on?
Besides, part of the thrill for me is to learn how these different "systems" work on a crawler.
I am still amazed at times at some of the design and advancements from over 50 years ago.
