winch and arch availability
What is the availability for winches and arches for 440, 350 or 450 dozers. Just gathering info right now. All help is appreciated.
About one year ago I paid about 3000 for a 350 winch and log arch. I think they are hard to find and mine was in good condition and worth every penny to me.
I have seen winches in Western Canada for the 450 crawlers advertised for over $4000. but I cant confirm if they were sold for that. I have also seen whole parts machines on the net with winches included for that much money, but, unfortunately, never around here! Do you have a budget in mind for one?

Winch availability
My 350 winch and arch found a new home in Saskatchewan as discussed above. Very hard to get a 350 winch and the arch was the only one my dad every had in his 40+ years of messing around with Deere crawlers.
I now have need for a 350 winch as I can haul a 350 loader machine behind my pickup for recovery of non-runners. Could use the winch to suck dead equipment on our s/a lowboy unit. I have a hydraulic winch off a 450 that will work in the interim.
Have lots of 450 winches, at least 4 of them. I find you don't get much extra for a crawler when you sell them with a winch, so might as well keep them and sell them another day. I'm going to put one on our 450c yard loader, both for use around the yard and to demo for potential customers plus the extra weight will come in handy when picking up a heavy load.
If the ICD was close to me, I'd be snapping it up. Especially if it has the factory Deere cast iron control valve.

Winch
In 1982 or 83 I made up an adapter spacer out of some 1" plate and mounted a manual winch from a Case 350 to my 1010. Just left about 4" of space in between and put #80 sprocket on the winch input shaft and another on the pto output shaft. Put some roller chain around both and never had a problem. Works real slick and no hydraulic control to worry about taking care of. I also put some of that Amsteel Blue synthetic winch line on the drum a couple of years ago. 3/4" with a 42,000 lb. working load. Doesn't have a memory like steel, doesn't rust or produce those little spears that tear up your hands and 100' only weighs about 9 lbs. Food for thought.
