What's a model 40C worth?

Post by neil » Wed May 17, 2006 3:53 pm

Hi everybody. I have a 4 roller John Deere that needs some final drive work. It runs great and steers fine but the final drive seals let some water in. What I do want is an estimate on what it could be worth to keep the accountant happy. I use it commercial fishing in the winter. It has a home built blade and 19 inch iceauger on back. Any help would be really appreciated.

I got my first 40c for 750 bucks and the second one for 40 bucks a ton [ scrap price] With out a motor or 60$ put a motor in and sold it for 5G So some place between 60$ and 5G I guess. Found one in the neighbourhood for 3500$ in nice shape with options like your auger add 500$. If your accountant complains tell him to by his own. I hope you test the ice before you drive two ton of deere onto the lake that would make one hell of a big fishin hole if it went down. Last winter we didn t have enough cold weather around here to keep a sled up let alone a crawler!! but she d cut a hole quick I bet . Digitup.

ice thickness up north

There wasn't much ice (approx. 10") till new years. After that it dropped down to 22". That old crawler had to get lifted off the bottom a couple of times but that was before I was even a gleam in my dad's eye. 18" is plenty for the john deere and up untill then a needle bar works ok.

I think it was Lavoy that said "buy the undercarriage". A good one makes it worth more as the UC is expensive to restore. Like digitup, I have paid $800 and I have paid $3600. Condition and location is everything. I have also seen guys pay $5K. A really good one, porperly restored, might be worth that. Without kicking the tires, er, pads, it's hard to say. Most collectors would knock a little off for a home built blade over what one with maybe a JD 61 blade would be worth. Hope it helps.

Yup! I just bought a 550H lt and the tracks are at 60 % got it cheep but new under carage is is $11000 Canadian for it The price is going down next week as the Canadian buck is getting close to the American buck now I might just run it for a wile and see what the price is in a few months The motor is cheeper than the tracks are at this point.Digitup..
