Post by kstivers » Thu May 18, 2006 6:30 am

I need to find a website to download tech data for my jd 440 loader. also
the tranny wont go into gear while eng. is running. i know the tranny is good because i can jam it into 1st when i idle it low. is there a clutch and pressure plate set up like there is with a regular vehicle with a standard system.

Yes it is a regular clutch set up. Do you have a reverser on it? If you keep jambing it into gear you won't have a good tranny for long. More than likely if it has been sitting for a while the clucth is rusted to the flywheel. If you do have a reverser it will have a lever on the left side of the dash and you can put this in nuetral and put it in gear and use it like this for a while to see if the clutch breaks loose but more than likely you will have to pull the engine. Good Luck

I dont rmember a lever on the dash, I will look when I get back home. there is a lever on the left side of the shifter, mounted on the tranny. the tranny is a 5 speed with reverse. I got a quote to replace the clutch and pressure plate of about $800. It sat up for 8 years before I got it. Every thing eles works great.

The reverser lever will be on the side of the dash, above the clutch pedal if so equipped.

Checked and no reverser. it has the shift rod running throught the dash, not connected, i suspect that was a standard issued part. I went ahead and took it to the repair shop. he is going to pull the clutch assmbly and have it rebuilt. parts will be about $350. John Deere has the clutch parts but the clutch disk alone is over $500.

I also need to find a cheap place to buy trac treads. JD wants $50 a piece

I have engine clutch kits for $200. I may have a set of used pads depending on what style you want.

Kit in includes new disc, rebuilt pressure plate, and new throwout bearing. If you want new pressure plate, add $40. I would guess freight at about $20.
