Snow Dozing
Hey, I always tell people they are just a big snowmobile, but slower.

Earlier in the year we had a big wind storm that brought down a large pine which took out a powerline and made a mess. Yesterday, I fired up the dozer and dragged it out in three pieces, making one load and decked it out of the way.
Pulling out wood when the ground is frozen and snow covered tears up the lawn a lot less. The winch, which I rebuilt earlier in the year worked nicely - pulled strongly, and held well as the dozer drove off to the decking area. Sorry too busy yesterday to get a picture. Paul

That is a lot of snow! We have about 2' where we are in NH, which is a little under normal of us. We are usually about even with the top rail on the split rail fence in the yard by now. Just over the bottom rail at this point.
Paul, we are a little over an hour east of the town formerly known as Sherburne (I think you guys sold out with the name change thing, lol). I suspect your snow situation is similar.
As a reformed snowmobile addict I am glad my boy has not been bitten by the bug. I feel Lavoy's pain, I remember stressing over the weather forecast and putting mega miles on my pickup and trailer chasing snow over the entire northeast.

I actually live in North Sherburne, a section of town that remains loyal to the old name. You may remember that a few years ago Killington wanted to secede from VT and petitioned to join NH over Act 60, a tax dispute with the State. Made for some good political posturing.
As for snow, we have about 18" at the house; well below normal. The ski area has a bit more and the skiing, due to snowmaking, is good. We could use a bit of that pile I saw Duke stacked.

Hi,
We had 2-3 inches on Tuesday, followed by 4-5 on Wednesday. It was hard to tell as it was melting from underneath all the while. It was freezing rain on Thursday, but I used a backblade on my 5103 (has a canopy, the M doesn't) and plowed slush. Heck, it was more liquid water than snow!
Yesterday it was sunny and warm, so most of it was gone by sundown. Last night it rained 2" so now I have mud everywhere.....
So, still no need to fire up the crawler.
Maybe someone will get stuck in the mud!

This thread seems to have been hijacked as a winter weather info center. That said, we got about 18" of denser snow yesterday requiring me to fire up the 420 to push back some berms and dress up around the house. One oops however; started to slide sideways into a gully, stopped and tried to backed up, slid deeper. Drove forward, slid deeper. Got off dragged cable and hooked up the winch cable to a nearby tree - it dragged the machine out nicely even before I could get into reverse. I usually plow in 6" lifts. This storm dumped on us over night to a nice morning surprise.
It's fun and handy to have one of these crawlers around.
BTW, The skiing is really good now.

I'm late to the party, but we've been using the 40C steady all winter long. Clutch is slipping bad and 2nd gear is about all she'll take and that's on the flat. Spend a lot of time in 1st gear but she pulls fine. Hauled out the largest Black Cherry I've ever seen this past weekend too. Over 32" at the stump! The old 40 earned it's keep!

We got enough snow dumped on us Valentine's Day to make a dozer actually useful! When it came time to shove the snow bank over a couple days later to clean the driveway better, it was so heavy I had to climb on top and knock the upper half over (blade angled), then go back and push the rest.
I got plenty of wood stockpiled but haven't yet been able to put in a stove. Which is greatly annoying me in this weather and the so called "propane shortage."
This pic is from facebook so I am not sure it will work
