440ICD bogey wheels and owner info

Post by drummer » Mon Jun 26, 2006 8:53 pm

Just found this site - Thanks for putting this on. I have a 440ICD serial 461609 which I know is one of the last ones. It came from a sod farm and is in great original condition - even the paint. I've used it around my property and noticed pieces of curled metal coming off the small bogey wheels or bottom rollers? Its looks as though they may have been rebuilt? and now the build up metal straps are coming off? They were welded on around the outside rim of the rollers in a circular manner. Can you shed some light here. How should I fix this. I also have a 440I serial 453742 and a 500A serial T153P123455R as well as the 4-5-6 & 730 ag tractors. Thank You - Drummer

If they were just built up by rolling strap around them as you surmise, I don't think you will find any fix. The strap is softer than the roller was, and is going to wear faster. Only thing I could tell you to do is make sure your track frames are square and parallel to make sure everything is running true.
