Not just the fuel can go bad (especially if you get algae), but the metering valve inside the pump can get stuck by drying out too long. Read Jdemaris's response towards the bottom of this thread:

AC, yes the fuel pump can go bad from sitting. It happened on my grandpa's.

It runs!! :D

I installed new glow plugs and bled the fuel system properly. It took lots of tries but she finally sputtered to life.
I let it run for 20-30 minutes raising and lowering the RPM and by the time I shut 'er down it sounded pretty darn good.
The blade moves in all directions but the hydraulic system definitely needs work.
Still a lot to do before I attempt to move it under its own power but I'm very happy to have the engine running--that's a big first step. 8)

AC - That's awesome! I agree with others that you cant go wrong on the price. Especially, now that it runs. I wouldn't run it too much until the oil is drained to find out if you have diesel fuel or anti-freeze in there. If it is like mine, it was diesel. The only thing wrong with mine was that 'lip seal' on the injector pump shaft, however, I had the pump rebuilt and injectors spray pattern tested before re-installation. May not have been necessary, but gives me peace of mind.

Also, if your hydraulics are sluggish, drain it, clean the filter, and replace the fluid and it will likely be a huge difference. My 2010 filter had pine needles, leaves, and dirt in it. Some folks dont believe in maintenance. :(

The more you work on it, the more you will appreciate what a good machine it is. I have a diesel 2010 and it is suprising how much work it will do in a short amount of time. Good luck!

These guys on this site are a blessing and have a wealth of knowledge about these machines. They have helped me a great deal. If you have questions about your machine, you are on the right track!

Thanks Lavoy and Bill. 8)

Yeah, going after the oil change next as well as flushing the oil bath air filter assembly.
I'm going to install two batteries (since there's already two boxes there) as well, and build new battery cables.

I guess I'll need to replace the old generator with an alternator? Is that right?

Crawler Crawls

Post by ACcrazy » Sun Jun 01, 2014 11:20 am

Went out about 7:30 this morning to see if she'd fire up and I'll be danged if she didn't! Started easy too--I was impressed and pretty happy. It was only hitting on 3 cylinders for a bit but finally started banging away on all 4.
Decided to see if it would move so, clicked 'er into forward, let the clutch out and we began to move. YAY! lol. Tried reverse--that worked too. Steers to the left but not the right so I have some work there. Very happy today!

Well, I checked out the no right steering issue and it appears the right pressure plate is broken. :(
So, it looks like I need to break the track, remove the sprocket and final drive--is that correct? Or is there some other magic way to repair it?
