Deere 50 Backhoe

Post by jac » Fri Jun 30, 2006 9:10 pm

Anyone know the weight of a Model 50 backhoe attachment? I am guessing it is around 3000 pounds but need to know to see if I can lift one onto a trailer with my 1.5 ton chain hoist

Jon,
I can't remember if the 50 is the side shifter or not, but if it is, I would guess it at least at that. If it is not, I think you are real close, 2,700lbs sticks in my head for some reason.

Lavoy:

Thanks for the info. I plan on driving my 440 out of the garage today. A July 4th celebration.

I was told in another post that it weighs approximately 2550 pounds.

I have a question about this particular model backhoe. I am looking at one of these over the weekend as part of a package deal with a 2010 trackloader. I briefly looked at this particular attachment previously, but was not able to hook it up or operate it because of time constraints. It did have a large number of new or almost new hoses and didn't seem like it had been used in rock. It did have a few small welds near the center of the main boom.

What should I look for that could be problematic? I think I can spot obvious problems such as leaky hoses and bucket pin slop.

Are minor welds on the main boom common or are they a major problem or indicative of other problems I should look for?

I guess I was most curious about how you can tell whether the rotary swivel unit for the swing arm is still functioning properly or whether it is starting to go out. I have heard that these can be a real problem with the Model 50.

Thank you for any responses.
