engine lock up problems

Post by ok farms » Mon Jul 03, 2006 5:00 pm

my diesel 440 crawler/dozer made a rattle noise and then locked up.
you can turn the motor backwards a little if has turned a quarter of a turn since locking up. are there any ideas or suggestions for this before we pull the motor out. just purchased the dozer and the motor was suppose to have less than 12 hours on a new overhaul.

Pull the valve cover off and see if an exhaust valve has dropped down?
I keep thinking of all those gears on the back of the engine. Possibly pull the governor off and see how it looks from there. If you pull the governor off you have to pull the intake access plate at the same time, neither one will come off without the other. Might glance around in the intake, you cannot see much. It could be something jamed the blower, it's gear driven on the back also. At least neither the blower or governor have to be timed when installed. Lots of possibilities. Good luck.

Another guess might be the blower, I know guys have said timing them is a bear to get right.
