Water in the oil

Post by Trich » Mon Jul 10, 2006 6:11 pm

I changed the oil in my 420 this spring after setting al winter and found some water in the bottom of the pan. Changed oil and filter started it and brought it up to temperature and found the new oil to be a milky gray. I am just getting back to the problem and have only run it long enough to get it to loaded and to my shop. I assume I'm dealing with a head gasket or a leaking sleave seal. What is most the most common problem with the 420

No sleeves on a 420, it is a leaking head gasket, or a cracked head, both are common causes of water in the oil on a 420. Either way you will have to pull the head off, so while it is off, get it magnafluxed and planed, and you will know for sure. Also, when installing a new head gasket, coat both sides of the gasket, the block, and the head with Copper Spray or Hylomar, they are a bugger to get to seal up otherwise.
