Waiting for the call
Saw a green crawler sitting on a junk lot (mostly well used equipment lot) and had a couple minutes so I stopped, did a road inventory, got the phone numbers. I called but "the husband" wasn't there, so I'll get another call in tomorrow.
What I saw:
It was green, not sure what green and no decals.
6 way hyd blade.
4 roller frame with pretty good amount of adjustment left on the tracks.
4 spark plugs looking at me
Complete 3 pt hitch.. from the road, the top link looked good too
Not sure if it runs, steers, has a reverser, or any other problems
No price on it??? Many questions and it would be very hard to sneak into the yard right now!!

Or, a 40/1010 hybrid! :O
Probably an Oliver, tho. Used to be there were more Oliver crawlers around than Deere. All died horrible deaths from overwork. They were lighter built. Then the serial killers started in on the Deeres.....

1010 with low hours. Asparagus farmer bought it and had it modded to spray fields and it didn't work out so he parked it. Present owner has had it for 25+- yrs and used it very little. Steers good, runs good, no reverser, compete 3 pt, the only problem is a cracked hyd valve. Asking $7500.
edit: I did not mention it did not look beat at all. Good grill, no nose guard. Owner said not beat and taken care of except it had sat out in the weather for quite a while. He did that, the farmer had it in a barn.

Check the serial number and see if it is an Ag crawler, that will have an effect on value, but I doubt the seller knows this.

Hi,
Think about what a re-life 350 costs from Dubuque (30k) and then look around and see what else there is that looks like a steel tracked crawler/dozer these days.
Maybe 7500 is not so bad. Gotta go look at it, just in case. If you don't you will always wonder.....

For a low hour ag crawler with a 3PT, he is not out of line on price assuming it is good condition.

My wife went by the crawler today and said it looked good!!! Maybe I can slip another one in here!!
Actually yesterday we were on our way home and got into a discussion about it and that I want one with a loader. It finally turned to the 420 I just rebuilt and the 2 "parts tractors" on hand. One of them has a good loader. If I take the 6 way blade off my 420 and the three point I could put the loader on it (and change the tracks to the flat pad ones).
Then I could sell all the left over parts to help pay for the new toy (minus a few!!)
Now I have to get some time and get down there to see if I can make a deal!!

420 running
Last fall I bought a 1957 420C with a Henry loader. It sat for 10 years outside. Took off the loader to check things out - motor was free with decent compression. Engine starts quick, sounds good, very little smoke and good oil pressure. Got the seat fixed up - thanks to Lavoy.
Today was nice day for test drive. Started the engine - pushed the clutch pedal - trans wouldn't go into to gear. Shut the engine off - put it first - enaged the starter and away I went. First time on its own power in ten years. It goes straight, but won't turn either direction. I guess I have some work to do ..... oh well.

OK, I got better look last evening. I was close so I stopped for a closer look, but it was late and not great light by then.
The hour meter shows under 300 hrs. Under carriage is 80++%, not even paint worn off the rails very much. The 3 pt is perfect and 100% there and it looked barely used. This tractor has sat out, but NOT abused in any way from the way it looks. Tin and grill are perfect!! This looks like a near new tractor.
I could not find a serial number tag and I looked the engine and bell housing over very closely. I guess I didn't know where it is on a 1010.
The only bad was badly weather beaten paint and hoses. The reason it didn't look right (color, it is a green tractor and always was) the first time I did a quick look was the weathering and the decals were hidden by the blade on the street side. A hydraulic leak someplace as there was oil around the controls.
Question: What is the second control lever on the left side on the dash?? I know one is the PTO, but what is the other? There were 4 hyd control levers on the right fender. I'm assuming one of those was for the 3 pt. or possibly the rear hyd lines?
Did JD use diamond plate fenders and control box?? The guy told me originally that he did some work on it to convert it back from the mods the original owner did to. I'm not sure if he put the 6 way blade on it or if it came with it. If he did it, he did good work.
