Track tensioner 420C

Post by country53 » Sun Jul 30, 2006 6:25 am

I replaced the bolts on my 420 with a grade8 bolt I purchased from BigBolt.com . They worked well at first but after a couple trips through the barn yard they have became very rusted just like the ones I took out and very hard to move. Is there any good fix to this problem? Is there a cylinder type tensioner made for a 420C?

Did you use a plated bolt, or just a plain one?
Hyd adjusters were an option, but not real common, and not a real good setup.

Non plated bolt with a cadium plated nuts. I am thinking about making some Brass nuts twice as long as a normal one. Also I talked to an old guy
that still runs a dozer for a living at 82 yrs and he said when you put them on clean and free of dirt they used to run candle wax on them.

The original bolts were plated, I wonder if that is going to be a problem for you. I would use anti-seize, that will help a lot.

What is the correct Big Bolt web site? Sounds like an interesting site to have in reserve.

The Web address for Big bolt is http://www.bigbolt.net/
I don't know how to do that fancy stuff where you just click on it.

Track Tensioner 420C

No, I haven't yet. I probably will try something in the future, I may have been tightening against the spring because I pulled it out last night after completing ring and pinion rebuild and I noticed both tracks were so tight one could have probably played the musical note of "G" on them there both the same I will need to loosen them before I use it. There might not be a problem after all. Dozer operates good after rear end rebuild. Battery charging right now might get some time to play this weekend

Just out of curiosity, how much were the tensioner bolts? Did you use grade 5 of grade 8?

Did they make it up for you, or was it a stocking item? How much extra would it have been for plating, or don't they do that?

They custom made the bolts I bought. They will plate for a fee. They also roll threads as well as cut threads about anything oe would desire
