new to me old 1010c ( left steering grabing)

Post by johnny o » Sun Nov 02, 2014 5:48 pm

I have just got a new to me 1010c bladed crawler to help out my 1975 International 3964 excavator with no blade to make roads this coming spring on our wood lot. Will use to pull wood out later, and clear snow off the road. I love this thing, its gas and everything works great on it. No smoke good undercarriage. Just a little slow turning, You have to pull on the sticks a bit more than I would think. Don't know, never had one before.
Right turning seems to be OK. When I go to turn left, the track doesn't
't seem to slow down at all and then suddenly come to halt and slams the track to a stop. I don't like that!!!! Now I have read some good stuff on this forum about rebuilding steering clutches and brakes. Plan on doing that before I use her next summer. Plan to change Oils and seals in drive at the same time, haven't looked yet but I am betting that the clutch unit is either oily or rusted. Do you guys think that this will solve me jerking around problem? Or should I look at something else?
Looking for a good deal on a Service Manual too.
Thanks for welcoming me to the forum. any information will be greatly appreciated.

I love old iron Johnny O

Thanks, hoping that that is all it is. Are the 2010 and 1010 similar in the repair of the steering clutch's? There is a good tutorial ( repair 2010 ) on the forum.
Would be nice if I could emulate that.
Still will be looking to purchase service and parts manual.
Can't wait to open her up and take a look.

1010 and 350 are about the same ..not 2010 on 2010 you CAN replace the brake band without pulling the clutch, track ect.. 1010/350 you have to split the track ect.
