JD crawler Identification help

Post by rskalee » Mon Nov 03, 2014 8:04 am

Hi there!

Have just purchased a John Deere Crawler for restoration. Unfortunately the serial number tag is missing. There´s just another plate that says it was financed in 1954.

I believe it´s a 40c model from 1954. Can anyone confirm that? What else there´s to know about this crawler.

There´s a picture here:

I don´t believe there are many of these here in Brazil.

Kind regards,

Ricardo

Sure looks like a '54 or '55 40C to me.
Not sure if there are any noticeable differences between the two years.

It apparently has an alternator on it, that wouldn't have been stock in the 1950s, and is probably setup on 12v. Most alternators are designed for negative ground electrical systems.
