I don't know that there's any specific position because it's probably different for each crawler.
I put mine at about 1/4 to 3/8 throttle. It will more than likely hit on one cylinder for a few seconds then the second one will come in.
If it hits on one cylinder for a good while, give it a little more throttle.
If it kind of dies out/ chokes itself out use less throttle. I've noticed if I have to much throttle on mine (when starting of course) it seems to kind of flood out and die.

1/4 throttle should work and in cold weather you'll probably need starting fluid. If the engine is really tired, you may want to use a bit of fluid in warm weather. gregjo1948

I figured about 1/4 throttle.
Just want to avoid unnecessary cranking.
Thanks

Start at idle. Any throttle at all will be translated to full throttle by the governor. Starting with excess fuel will wash the oil from cylinder walls. Not good. It should hit on all cylinders. Don't goose it until you see good oil pressure.

The JD operators manual says move the throttle lever to full throttle and then back to 1/2 then start the engine.
