1010 engine oil

Post by 1010c » Sat Dec 27, 2014 3:15 pm

Hello everyone I changed the oil in my 1010 the other day. I filled it with the correct amount of oil. I than ran the crawler for an hour or so and the oil pressure and engine temperature was normal. Yesterday I went and rechecked the oil level and it was high by almost a quart. At first I thought I put too much oil in so I drained a small amount. I rechecked the dipstick and it was at the correct level. I than ran the dozer for another hour and the oil level is high again. At first I thought the head gasket or the o rings were leaking. But there is no presence of water in the oil. My question is can the hydraulic oil somehow get into the engine block? I was also wondering this because my hydralic oil is low.

I don't believe the hydraulic system comes in contact with the engine oil. If this is a diesel it's possible that a seal is bad in the injector pump and disk fuel is leaking in. Not sure what it might be if you have a gas engine.

Sorry I didnt mention it is a gas engine. Is there any place the engine oil can contact other oil. Or is it as I feared that my head gasket or o rings went
The engine runs fine and the previous owner said the top end of the engine was rebuilt and that the deck was bored out. This would make me think the orings and head gasket are more or less new And the original oil level never changed always in the operable range.

Has been a while since I worked on one..
Can always loosen the engine oil plug and check for coolant or closely monitor the coolant level.

I think I will pull the plug and see if there is coolant in the oil. If it is leaking coolant i guess I have another winter project. Thank you

Remember too the oil filter drains back down into the pan after the engine is shut off.
When the tractor is just sitting and not running the dipstick will show one quart over full.

So are you supposed to check it with the dozer running

I never had a problem before. And I already took about a quart of oil out.

Ok I will recheck tommorow. I did check after about 3-4 minutes of operation. I also checked it many times before with no problems. Thank you
