420 to 350 undercarriage upgrade question
420 to 350 undercarriage upgrade question
Hello all, I am finally preparing to take the undercarriage upgrade plunge and I thought of a question. When upgrading the undercarriage from a 420 to a 350 undercarriage. I understand that you have to take the old sprocket rims and cut/torch the outer edge off and weld the new rim onto the old sprocket. Why is that? It the sprocket depth on the 350 that different that the undercarriage cannot be slid out and re-tightened on the box tubing mounts, or would the undercarriage have to come in towards the engine and then it would rub? or it only because of the bolt pattern? I can't seem to find any previous post explaining the reason why???

350 sprocket will not bolt on to the 420 axle, not even close. Might be able to make an adapter plate, but that is more complicated than just welding on the rim.
