2010 diesel starter
I took the starter off and took it apart again--found the bolt that holds the arm that activates the bendix drive was missing its nut and the bolt was falling out--I took the unit apart to dress up the end of the gear and can't remember how this arm goes back in. Any help or web sites that might show me? All other parts seem good--I have no history on this unit but it would seem to me that the starter has been overhauled sometime not so long ago. thanks

Thanks--but there is a difference in the two sides of the lever in this case--I was not quick enough to check when I took it apart. I will try the unit with a jumper cable and see if the gear goes out far enough.

The flat side of the shift lever faces away from the solenoid if that make sense to you.(Delco used a few diiferent styles of shift levers). Using your jumper cable, connect ground cable to body of starter and connect B+ to just the switch terminal and it will energize just the solenoid without power up the motor. The drive should come out to within app. a 1/16 in. from the stop collar. Hope this helps Jason
PS Don't energize solenoid terminal for more than a few seconds as it will get very hot quickly.

Installed the repaired starter on the 2010 yesterday (a warm 23 degrees here). Today (high of 28 degrees) I blead the fuel system and fired her up--no problems. Everything seems to work as it should--the primer pump works wonders in the cold weather. I seem to have a small leak in the radiator as I saw some antifreeze on the ground--this is new--always something. Also a question:
the pins in the loader tilt arms that have a hex opening on the end--how do they come out? Use an impact?? What keeps them from turning?? thanks
