1959 440 IC w/loader dimensions

Post by lastchancegarage » Wed Aug 09, 2006 8:02 am

Would anyone happen to have accurate dimensions for a 440 IC w/loader. I believe it's the 831. I'm looking for length and weight primarily. Thanks.

Weight is app 10,000 lbs, width is 5', would guess length at about 12'.

Thanks for the info. Is there a way to turn the engine over without using the starter? I'm curious if the motor on this particular crawler is frozen or not. Is there a crank bolt on the front I can put a socket and breaker bar on to try a turn or two? Thanks.

Unfortunately no, unless you can get it to turn with the fan blades.

If the front pulley on the crank is the same I have a fixture I made to hook a electric drill on and turn my 420C. I can send it if you want to pay shipping

My 440ICD/831 has the hydraulic pump mounted in front of the crank pulley. If you move it out of the way you might be able to turn the coupling. Maybe you could pull the fuel tank and starter and use a pry bar to turn it?

Thanks for the offer Country. Right now the problem is going to be getting this unit out of a tough spot for a machine that can't start by itself and drive out. I'm running into costs for equipment to assist with the loading onto a trailer that more than doubles the cost of the machine. At this stage, I'm thinking I'll pull the plugs, lube the cylinders and jump the starter. If the engines frozen, I'll know immediately. If it can turn over, I'll check oil level, change plugs, hotwire the coil, squirt a little gas in the carb and see what happens. If by some miracle this thing can run just long enough to get it on the trailer, that'll put one hurdle behind me. If money was no object, I'm sure there is a rolloff wrecker which specializes in heavy equipment moving that would be able to get it out. We'll see what happens. Somehow this machine needs to be in my yard. :? Thanks for the help guys. If this works out I'll have to take pics.
