braden winch on john deere 40crawler

I have a 1954 john deere 40 crawler serial #67898 and it has a Branden winch. The person that I bought it from got it new in 1954 with the winch on it from the dealer. Was this a winch that would have been installed at this time of purchase ?

Very possible. Braden was one of Deere's "Allied Aftermarket Suppliers" that dealers chose from for attachments and accessories.
