Delco distributor
I've got a silly question. Does a distributor for a 4 cylinder engine have to have a cam with 4 lobes on it? Does the Delco distributor for a 2 cylinder have only 2 flats on the cam 90 degrees apart?

4 cylinder= 4 lobes 2 cylinder= 2 lobes 180 degrees That's what I think. gregjo1948

This distributor has 2 flats 90 degrees apart, not 180. I think that is what threw my thinking off course. At any rate, they sent me the wrong distributor. Rats. The cap is for a 4 cylinder. Also, the condenser looks like it was crushed in a vise to make it fit under the cap.

Look at the 2 cylinder distributor cap and see how the terminals are located for the spark plugs. I would guess, if the terminals are 90 degrees, then the lobes would also need to be 90 degrees. gregjo1948

Hi,
The Deere 2-cyl engines are fired in a 4 cylinder sequence with two wires popped off.
Fire, Fire, Miss, Miss.
So the flats are 90 deg, and the cap looks like a 4 cyl cap with two wire towers cut off. Which, is essentially what it is.

My brother has a couple of 720s and I think you could use a four cylinder cap and only stick two wires in it. The trick would be knowing which two to use. They are next to each other.
