JD450 thru JD450G Serial Numbers

I have read the explination of Type Codes and am still a little confused.
I have a JD 450BA
SN# 132787T

Does this mean I have a 1972 model? what do the B and A stand for?

Is this a Turbo or not.
Last where can I get a repair manual for this?

Welcome to the board.

You have a 450B, manufactured in 1971. The B is the "version", so a 450B. The "A" is a designator for the type of crawler, but I am not exactly sure what. It could be standard versus wide track or something else that someone else will have to answer for you- I don't have the manual.

As previously mentioned in this thread, the 4219 engines for the 450B did not come from the factory as a turbo, but could be ordered as a dealer add on. Thus your machine may or may not have a turbo- can you look and see if it has the turbo? It should be mounted off of the exhaust manifold similar to this photo i grabbed off the internet:

Do you know if European serial numbers differ from the machines for the US market? Mine a 450 dozer has the serial number 450 AC 193731 L I Made in Mannheim Germany, I can't find this in your list, unless it's a 'B" they called "AC" in Europe?

Thanks to refer me to this message..... but I still have no clue on how to identify My JD 450 AC, Strange that with the amount of units that have got a different serial number than the ones for the US market, no one has done a cross reference investigation, or asked JD about this. I did sent them an email in Mannheim ( Germany) to shine some light on the matter. If I ever do get a clear answer, I will keep the forum informed..... If someone else knows...... I can't wait to know, don't want to use my recently purchased 450 until I get a manual that tells me what to grease and which oil and filter to replace with what specification. I F***ckd up heavy equipment before by low or no oil levels etc.

On a tractor this old, could be a drop in engine? Definitely no turbo. Rubber hose from under dash air box to intake. Not an overly loud tractor but it does not have any muffler.

Riddle me this. What is a:. Type E7450,. Serial No. 0089xxT. It does not follow the format in the decoder. It has JD450 stenciled on the side. The tag is on the right side of the instrument panel attached with rivets and looks original.

Beats me. The serial number list ends long ago, and the decoder isn't known to go further. May be a machine newer than when the list ends. Plus, the decoder is only for Dubuque, Iowa made machines. We've seen plenty of different serial strings from other plants.

I guess I might be a little dense. I own a 450C with a six way dozer that the over pressure filter button on the hydralic tank started popping up on.

I found the Serial Number plate on the front of the battery box. 4500C 264170T Looking at the chart the number doesn't show me much about my dozer.

I believe from the serial number chart it is a 1977 model, 264170T

The parts book shows two different filters, a spin filter or a wire mesh filter in the tank.

I am hoping to use the numbers to identify the filter used in my application, it's along way to town.

My alternative is to take it apart but I really don't want to until the weather improves.

Does it hurt it to run with the button up, I suspect it does.

What I see in the online parts catalog is the spin on filter is on the outside of the tank, not inside the tank. The parts catalog it started with crawler serial number 354075 and was used on the crawlers after that serial number.

Two different filters were used in the tank prior to that serial number.

Serial number 228541 and through serial number 354074 used the element # AT45422. That one had a closed end so didn't use the end cup. Serial number 228540 and before used the "Micronic" filter # U41343 and the # U17020 filter cup on the end of it. There is also a note that the AT45422
has been substituted for U41343 and U17020.

Your crawler serial number falls between 228541 and 354074 so it should have the AT45422 element and the related gaskets in the tank.

It's not a showstopper, but I think your question might have been better asked on the Late Models Board, than buried here. Your question isn't really about your serial number. Others may have some additional info for you on this, if they see it. A Moderator may move this to the late models board when it is seen.

For reference of those who may read this in the future. E7450 is the prefix for the JD loader installed on a 450. (E7350 was used for the loaders used on the 350 and 350B.) The loader has its own serial number. This is not the crawler serial number. I believe it was with the 450C that the loaders and blades were included in the crawler parts books and other manuals. The loaders on the 450 and 450B crawlers had their own separate parts catalogs from the crawler tractor.

I have jd 450 straight no serial number has 4 cylinder diesel crawler loader 4 in one bucket with high low reverse Trans. Any ideas on year need hydraulic cylinder rebuild kit for lift cylinder arm. Thanks for any info.

Welcome to the Boards. Your question should be on the Late Models Board as it is not a serial number question. Don't be surprised if it gets moved to that board by a moderator.

Is there a tag on your loader? It should breathed as a model 7450 loader, if it is original. The loader parts catalogs are separate from the crawlers during that time frame. Here is a link to the loader parts catalog. I can't say it the kit for the boom cylinder is still available or not from JD. You can email Lavoy (postmaster@jdcrawlers.com) or call him at 701-361-1006 during CST business hours to see if he has a kit in his store. Baum Hydraulics might have a kit. Or take it apart, take the old parts to a hydraulic shop and see if they can match them up for you.
