Crawler Service Manual and Parts Catalog list

Post by Stan Disbrow » Mon Jun 08, 2015 7:38 am

Hi,

Well, this morning I had a mug of coffee larger than normal, and a donut smaller than normal. So, that left me with half a mug of coffee and the only Food was that For Thought..... :P

So, I thought we might could (this is a Southern term) use a List where all the Service Manuals and Part Catalogs were in one place for easy lookup.

So, here goes. I will start the list what I have on the shelf, which are few. But, that will get us going. Others can list the rest in replies, and I will copy and paste them into this starting post so folks don't have to wander thru a maze of posts looking for what they want.

BO Lindeman

Are there manuals for these as crawlers, or was it grab a BO manual and guess when it came to the Lindeman parts?

MC

OM TMC2551
SM 2003
PC 848

MC 1000 Tool Carrier
OM Y6-1050

MC 60 Bulldozer
OM F21-1131

The M manuals were split into M, MT and MC. Manuals for the later models have the crawlers in with the rest. M was SM2001 and MT was SM2002. I have PC194 (1954) which only covers the standard M wheel tractor. Presumably, there were other PCs for the MT and MC. PC848 is a later one (1963) which covers all the M variants.

Important Note: If one has the Differential style Reverser in their late 420 or 430, one needs the 440 SM as well. The Diff Reverser is not in SM2019. PC505 *does* show the Diff Reverser, so we're good there.

I do not know of a SM for the 430. I think the 420 manual is used. Or, at least the JD Dealership I grew up in used the 420 manual for the 430. My manuals came out of our shop when it closed down. The PC505 for the 420 also covers the 430 parts which happen to be different from the 420.

Here we see my Uncle tossing manuals at his brother (Dad). I have a 440 manual for gassers, and a manual just on the diesel engine, and a catalog for the diesel machine. This is because the 420/440 manuals were in the pile and between them all, most everything is covered.

Originally, I thought there was a third service manual for diesel 440s. Well, now I think there was no separate service manual for diesel 440 machines. I think it was what I have myself: A manual for Spark Ignition machines and a manual just for the 2-53 engine.

Now that I bought one, I went looking for a used manual. And, found several part numbers for Op Manuals. So, I added a few more to the list. I think they must have had too much coffee to make so many for one series (see my original verbage above about too much coffee):

OM T73439 arrived and it covers all three bulldozers, the loader, and both backhoes.

TM 1115 and PC 1480 arrived and also cover the bulldozer, loader and backhoe attachments. Earlier series had separate manuals for each item.

Nice write-up Stan.
I have a 1010C parts catalog labeled PC727 (01Jul67)
I also have a 440 ICD GM Diesel engine service manual that is SM2028 (01Apr59)

I don't believe there is a diesel equivalent to the SM2023 that you mentioned. The diesel differences are somewhat covered in the SM2028.

Operators manual for 440ICD is OMT73459 (01Apr59)

The owners manual for a 602 blade is OMU11413 (01Nov59) if you'd like to add that also.

Hi,

Ok. SM 2028 not 2026. Mine looks like a 6 and a grease smudge. Poor old beat up manuals, I have. Were used. A lot.

Unless...there were two, two numbers apart. Nah. As weird as Deere can get, they can't have gotten that weird. Can they?? :P

I think there was a 440ICD SM to cover some other changes necessary than just the engine. But, maybe not, and that is why I don't have one leftover from the shop.

I always thought the 2-53 SM was one for the engine apart of what it was stuck in. Somewhere, I have one that covers the 3 cyl diesels used in the JD350 (and 820/30, 1020/30 and 1520/30)....

Stan

Edit: after some web searching, all I see are 440 Spark Ignition service manuals and GM 2-53 Diesel Engine service manuals. No third manual for Diesel equipped machines. So, I removed the extra line from the 440 list.

It really is OK, because with the 440 gasser manual and the 2-53 manual and the ICD parts catalog, everything one needs to work on them is there.

Found a few more.
440IC parts catalog PC573
440IC owners manual OMT54458
440IC newer owners manual OMT54859

This is the site where I found those manuals and bought mine.
http://www.johndeeretechinfo.com/
I did a quick search for 420 and stuff came up for them also.

I'll have to look at home, but I know we have two different service manuals for a 1010, one hard copy and one pdf. Only reason I know is because the manuals aren't consistent with what fluid is used in the reverser. One says ATF and one says hydraulic fluid. :x

Hi,

OK. Caught up with the additions. Many thanks for the input! Oh, and I stopped the list at the 350 because I ran out of my own data. We do want to add the 450s, 550s, etc dozers, and the x55 loaders, and the sub letters out as far as they go (I lost track at D). So those folks who have those kindly chime in and the list can grow long and distinguished! :)

Stan

Edit: OK. I added places for the 350 and 450 out thru D. Of course, I will add in other letters as data for them comes in. And, any other models. Even the D series are getting to be old machines now, and we do want to keep as many going as we have the really old ones. :)

Hi,

So, now that we have most of the machines covered, it is time to cover the bulldozers and loaders.

I see a fairly large number of models listed, but I am having difficulty lining up just which dozers and loaders go onto which models once I go past the 440. The document listings presume one is looking for what they have and not wholesale trying to make up a list like this. :P

So, some help would be...helpful...and greatly appreciated. ;)

I would like to enter them into the list along with the machines they mounted on, and not just grouped by model number in their own posts. If I can.

Hi Stan,

Some current manual numbers for 450C's from the JD technical site to up date your list.

Operator's manuals: OM T71337 for crawler loaders, OM T71338 for crawler bulldozers (could not get OM T62743 to show up anywhere)
Parts catalogs: PC 1420 for crawler dozers, PC 1443 for crawler loaders
Technical manual: TM 1102 for crawlers, dozers, and loaders

Sorry if my suggesting this post suggested the manuals were here to open and use. They are not available to view. Stan made this list so folks would have the publication numbers they should have for their machines, when they are looking for manuals.

Stan, thanks for the list( that takes a lot of time)

I have that SM- JD 2037 for 2000 series machines, and I don’t see that number in your list?? It is a JD publication and came with my 440ic (442172) when I bought crawler. Don’t know why previous owner had it with the 440ic manuals, parts, service, and owners( all JD books) .
Also the 2000 series manual( JD2037) covers the series 40 winch , is that the same( or close ) to an 8A winch on my 440ic.?

If it’s not usable for anything on my 440ic, then it is still available for give or trade, to someone that could use it. Lavoy??
Just send me a message, or call 1-250-983-4347.

John Deere publications now shows SM2036 is for 2000, 2010 wheel tractors and SM2037 is for 2000, 2010 crawler tractors.

The SM2037 manual I look at has the model 20 winch in it, not the 40. I believe the 40 winch series started about 1989 and is grouped with the 4000/4000s winches, which are on newer machines. The model 20 is not similar to the Gearmatic 8A winch, so that info won't work for you. Lavoy or one of the other fellows may know if the 20 (there may have been a Model 10 as well) was built by Gearmatic, or other supplier, for JD.

You need a manual for a Gearmatic 8A winch. One of the fellows (I believe it is Paul Buhler, if memory serves me right) here has a copy he has emailed those who ask in the past.
