1010 vs 350

Post by cpjd450b » Sun Jul 24, 2005 12:06 pm

I have 1010 gas in line that I'm waiting to get my hands on. I'm looking for something to skid wood out in the winter. Someone told me that it would be too light to pull in the snow a 350 diesel would heavier and better

So my question is, Is there much weight difference between a 1010gas and a 350diesel?

Very little. Not enough that you would notice it sitting on the seat.

Thanks Lavoy

So the 1010 would be just as good and easier to find around here.
Thanks

On the whole the 350 is a better crawler. If you can buy a 350 in comparable condition for not a lot more money, I would go with the 350, but in terms of what you are doing, the 350 is not going to pull significantly more.

I don t know about down there but I have owned both machines and I would say nither Find a good old 450 for this job preferably with a winch and a log arch[just drag the back tips it s a lot easyer] You won t get enough wood dragraged out to make it worth your time with a 350 or a 1010 dozer and a crauler loader is even worse If it is not on single grouser tracks I have a 350 B wide track and it is not that great in snow either[go any where by it s self but to pull a couple hundred board feet of log forget it!]The winter is the time to do this job though I guess if it is all you have got they will work and a 350 dozer would be my answer We have some 350 gasers up here they start nicer in the cold 50% of those three cylender diesels do not start or just might start in the cold the wide track starts nice though And I have left my old 450B-C and Gs out for three weeks at minus 30 and no problem to start any of them Like I said just drag the tips and keep the mud off the log it will kick the hell out of the saw chains and the saw blades if you don t Yes I log during the winter months up here but only use dozer for the landings and log roads and timber jacks for the rest Got any questions just ask!
