blade information

Post by rwalker » Sat Jan 12, 2008 6:32 am

I just recently picked up my first crawler, a 1951 MC. It came setup with a bucket loader, but I would like to replace that with a blade. I'm having trouble locating any information on blades -- are there any informational sources put out by John Deere or others that detail which blades can be used and instructions for installing? Thanks for your help.

Only thing you may find would be old literature, there is nothing current. The only two factory blades for the MC would be the MC60, and MC1000 Tool Carrier.

Thats good to know about the MC60 and MC1000 blades -- but what about 40C blades? Are there any others that would also work on the MC?

None that the crawler will carry comfartably and will not be a terrible strain on the undercarriage.

Hi,

The original blade for the MC is pretty light, what I would call a
'barn scraper' blade.

As the machine grew up, the blades became progressively heavier, and the tracks became longer and heavier to go along with them.

The 40 gained a fourth roller, and then a fifth, while the blade becamer heavier and then heavier again such that it needed two lift cylinders.

The 420 dropped the three roller option, then the 440 beefed everything up again and added the PAT option, etc.

The problem with the heavier blades is that too much weight winds up on the front idler, which isn't the strongest thing in the world, and the poor MC will wind up riding nose down.

Later!
