Tag should be located on the left side as you sit on the tractor under the fuel outlet on the fuel tank. It should be rivited to the centersection.

In the picture here it's about dead center under the fuel line.

Hope that helps you some.

thx for the quick reply...the plate is missing BUT the crawler u pictured is it.....looks the same anyway, could u post some more pics for me to look at? It came with a scoop but no blade. It has a heavy steal grill with horizontal louvered bars, two pedals that engage together? It has the same track as the crawler u posted. The extra head with it has the casting # M1768T. Its a 4 spd + reverse....is there anything i can tell u to help ID it? thx Aaron

Dewy-

If you could get some pictures it will help more than me posting pictures of my machine.

Others on the board with more experience than I would probably be able to look at the pictures and tell you more. Remember the MC, 40C, 420C all were really close in appearance... especially at a distance.

One thing I can tell you is that the two pedals are NOT supposed to work together. the left is the clutch and the right is the brake. They work on a co axial shaft (one inside the other) and frequently seize up. PB Blaster squirted onto each side and then trying to work the pedals seperately may get them up seized. I put the Blaster to mine on a regular basis to keep them free. This is a very common problem.

Lavoy,
Do you know what the sn. is for the first and last 420C off the line was?? I know the 430C were numbered differently that the wheeled 430's but the 420's were all in the mix.

First 420C- 80,002
Last 420C-136,795
430 crawlers were numbered in the same range of serial numbers as the wheel tractors, same as the 420's, only the 40 did not follow this rule.

Ok, good thing to know. Thank you! Do you know how I could figure out how far from the end of production a certain 420C was??

Pat,
go to the top of this thread where Lavoy gives the searial numbers by production year. I think that is as close as you can get. average the years production volume per month and you will be close.
