wanted 440ICD fuel pump

I looking for a fuel pump for my 440ICD. I changed the seals in mine but it still leaks. I put the seals in the direction the manual showed but it looked backwards to me. I increased the size of the relief hole to the seal it still poured fuel. I finally made up a copper return line from the pump seal back to the tank. Then I realized (why always after I destroy something) is there some kind of pressure regulation on the other side of the injectors? I might not be getting any return flow.Could too much pressure be causing the leak? The internal pump relief unseats at about 65 psi but a don't think the pump is capable of that pressure as worn as it is.
