converting no hydraulic to hydraulic on 40's

Post by pop pop » Tue Sep 08, 2009 10:02 pm

was wondering about the 40's with no hydraulics.(1953 model)
can they be converted simply?
has anyone put on an alternate hydraulic system?,,, like a different pump run from other than a stock setup?
i see some models had a secondary unit coming out of the rear,, ,,, is it possible to add this models secondary or might the castings or something else render it unfeasible?,,this crawler has the 540 pto,,,

Factory hydraulics can be added, you just need to parts to do it. You could put something like a Prince PTO pump on the back, but you will not have live hyd then. You would also need a reservoir, and a valve with a bypass in it. I have seen pumps mounted on the front and driven off the crankshaft, but usually they butcher the sheetmetal when doing so.

Okay, finally was able to get some time in on the 40. The crawler will have new fibers and steels on both sides, pressure plates were already new I found when I got it apart. It has excellent undercarriage, 14" single bar grousers, hyd, good sheetmetal. Have not had it runnning yet, fuel tank is at the rad shop getting steamcleaned, should have it next week. Also will be putting on new muffler, carb kit, and tune-up parts.
