Hi,

It is on the M. Not sure about the 40, but IIRC that is the same. The 420 and up have R the same as 2nd.

Now that begs my question. Is it R=1st on the 4 speeds and R=2nd on the 5 speeds?

I seem to recall that the 4 speed went to R=2nd for the 420.

I know R=1st on the M 4-speed. I was whining about my M being too slow in R just today, in fact! I jumped off the M and onto the 420c where I have a reverser and was happily backing up in 3rd as I was doing a little brush swatting, which I do in 3rd. Nice! :)

Of course, the data is all out in my shop in the manuals. But I am happily in the house now and too lazy to go looking thru the 40 and 420 shop manuals.... :P

No, reverse is for the most part 2.75MPH, 2nd is 2.25MPH, so it is slightly faster, varies between crawlers. First is .78MPH, again, varies between crawlers some.

Hi,

I finally pulled my manuals off the shelf today. Only the M had a reverse as low as 1st. The 40 saw R jump up in the neighborhood of 2nd. I just could not remember exactly when they changed that.... I have CRS disease. I think it comes from too much time vibrating on a crawler seat.... :P

Also, I noticed a hole on the manual shelf where my 430 service manual is supposed to sit. Now, I wonder why that isn't there? I have it for the reverser section on my 420. I have not needed to refer to it in years. So, it ought to be right there next to the 420 manual. I must have lent it out, but do not recall doing that. Great. More CRS!

Update May 26:

Oh! *there* it is! Migrated to the wrong area of my workshop, it did! It was in the Electronics Lab corner. Making like it was a different kind of service manual. I wonder how long it has been there? Quite a while going by the dust layer...

To be fair, it was in an old IBM binder. Lots of things around here are in old IBM binders. Back when I worked at IBM, I would keep project info in them, and rather than toss it after a project was over, I stored the old data at home in case I needed it later on. When we parted ways, I destroyed the information and reused the binders.

I suppose I ought to put the Deere manuals into Deere binders....

No, your fine, there is no 430 manual, you use the 440 manual for late 420 reverser. Now, if your 440 manual is gone, might be another story.

Hi,

Um. Yeah. 440 manual. Now, why did I call it a 430 manual? Must be cause I have CRS! :P

That fits in with the CRS of 'where did it go?' So, I won't edit my other post. It will be funnier this way! :)

Edit: Found it! See earlier post in this thread for the rest of the story! ;)

Kinda beats wondering what I am hereafter. Or if I am in the right place for that!
