gearmatic 8a part

Post by notmeu » Wed Sep 09, 2015 7:50 pm

Hello all, I am looking for a replacement brake adjusting nut for a 8a gearmatic winch, it is located on the bottom outside of the clutch/brake side of the winch. It is item number 81 in the manual, part number A1103. I cannot find one for sale as a aftermarket part, can anyone help out?

Thanks pop pop, It looks pretty simple to make. But there is so much rust and its hard to guess what the actual measurements should be.

Actually I didn't for this part, I tried on a few other parts and they were not available, they did say that they could release the drawings to me. I'll try them on Monday morning.

Tom:
On my winch it appears that this adjuster has been replaced with a piece of properly sized threaded water pipe (nipple) that has a doubled washer welded inside as a "bottom" for the shaft to rest upon. There are a couple of slots cut into the bottom so that a lever can be inserted to turn it up or down as needed. Not fancy, but it works. Pop Pop's offer sounds really good. Good luck Paul

pauls description is pretty accurate as that is what mine appears to be also.
i tried to measure it but is in a pretty tight spot.
the winch is on my bench and i cant roll it over without lifting it and my engine hoist is on the other side of the shop right now.
but i looked at it 3 times already,,, hope your a patient man.
i can probably get some measurements soon.

No problem pop pop, I've been struggling with trying to get the clutch spider piece off of the clutch side of the winch. Hopefully if time permits tonight, it will be rosebud tipped torch night!

I resembles a pipe nipple, but isn't. It is standard NF thread, counterbored for the spring, and a slot milled in the bottom like a screwdriver slot. I had some made a long time ago, let me see if I have any left.

Send me an e-mail so I don't forget. If I don't have any new ones left, I need to get another batch made up, will just need to find my pattern. Might take a little longer if you can wait.
