40C tracks

Post by Loose Tracks » Sun Mar 20, 2016 6:27 pm

I have a'54 4 roller and a 5 roller 40C. Tracks on the 4 roller are fair, tracks on 5 roller bad wore out. The 5 roller frame is going to get a restored drive train so I need to do something about tracks. Either pin & bush the 5 roller tracks or find another set of tracks or find enough pads to lengthen the 4 roller tracks to fit. Can anybody help? Also, will 420 tracks fit a 40?

420 pins and bushing's are larger than the 40 so you will need the 420 sprocket in order for it to work properly the 420 chan is the same through the 2010. 440 sprocket won't work, different offset.

Hi,

There is also the option of using JD 350 chain if you cut the teeth off of the older sprocket and weld a 350 rim sprocket onto it. The 350 chain has a different pitch but it fits the rollers and idlers ok.

I mention it because 350 chain and rim sprockets are still available new.

I take it that the 40 & 420 sprockets are interchangeable as far as the axle hub?

That is only true for early serial number 2010 track links/chain (through s/n 42,000), although the early 2010 has more links than needed for a 420. The track links for later serial number 2010s are the same as for the 350 crawlers, just fewer links.

420 chain is also 2 bolt, 2010 is 4 bolt. Pitch and bushing size is the same though, regarding 2010 under 42,000.

Hi,

I suppose I ought to point out 350 is 4-bolt as well.
