Lavoy, do you have part # am 2133T (oil seal) for a 40c?
Re: 40c oil seal

Re: 40c oil seal
Maybe pinion shaft seal in final? AM2133T subs to AT14924T, page 45-5, item 17 in PC862?
Re: 40c oil seal
If you look at a 40c final drive, it is in the back of the final drive housing on the top where the final drive shaft goes through it.
Also there is a cup (race) part # JD 8220 T that is in front of the oil seal. I have the cup, but without a new oil seal I'm afraid of ruining the old oil seal trying to remove the cup which is bad. My old oil seal is still good. Any and all advice is welcome.

Re: 40c oil seal
When you need parts it is best to send Lavoy a direct email at postmaster@jdcrawlers or give him a call (701-361-1006 during ND weekday business hours), not just do a post. I'm sure he can help you with the parts. The seal number you posted, has had a couple number changes it appears. Lavoy will have the right one.
Re: 40c oil seal
My mistake, grabbed the wrong book. Yes, in stock, $15.

Re: 40c oil seal
Lavoy, tell me how to pay, and I'll send the money right away. Also, this looks tricky to remove that race. The oil seal might be a lot easier. Any helpful hints.
Re: 40c oil seal
Not hard at all, just drive it out with a punch or bearing punch. Give me call at 701-361-1006 and I can write up an order.

Re: 40c oil seal
Finally got around to knocking out the race (cup), and the oil seals (there were 2 used). Is this correct, as far as using 2 oil seals?
Re: 40c oil seal
It is not, but you often see it. It does no good, the outside seal runs dry with no oil against the inside of the lip, so it just burns it up anyhow and will leak if the inside seal ever leaks.

Re: 40c oil seal
Placing the oil seal into the final drive from the back of the final drive, which way should the oil seal face? With the metal frame to the inside or outside? Also, using just one oil seal should it go all of the way in against the race, or flush with the outside of the final drive?
When I removed the old oil seals both were installed with the inside one oil seal with metal frame against the race. The other was facing in the same direction.
Kinda of hard to describe inside or outside. Hope I'm making myself clear. It's tough getting old.

Re: 40c oil seal
The "flat" surface of the seal frame should be out. The largest lip which is the sealing lip is towards the fluid. Seat it flush with the edge of the case.

Re: 40c oil seal
Thank you, Lavoy, both of the old oil seals were in backwards.
