am2011t oil seals and roller shafts

Post by dnormand25 » Sun Jan 14, 2007 9:52 pm

Lavoy, Do you sell the oilseals for the bottom rollers of a 1010(am2011)? I am starting to tear mine apart and would like to replace all 20 of them. Are these the same seals used in the idler assembly (at10032t)? I thought i read they are. My local Deere dealer isn't to interested in helping dispite how expensive the parts are.
Could you explain a bit about the shaft (m3785t) and the bushings (m2266t). i have only disassembled one thus far, but they are all exteamly loose on the shaft with lots of play. the bushings were extreamly thin and steel. i would have thought they would be bronze or somthing. I also noticed my shaft had a flat across it. I assume this is wear and the shaft should be cylindrical. are new shafts availible or should i contact a local machinist? I took a file to it and it doesn't appear to be hardened.

Thanks for all your help,
David in Ms

Roller seals are different from idler seals, but I have both. THe bushings should have a bronze face yes. Yours must be quite worn if you are down to the steel.
Shafts are current from Deere, I am working on replacements, have not gotten the quote back yet.

Shafts

Post by dnormand25 » Mon Jan 15, 2007 5:23 pm

I searched the deere parts site for the shafts (m3785) but couldn't locate them. Do you have the bushings (m2266)? deere didn't show these availible either. I cleaned up the seals a bit and they seem to be fair condition. Unless there is a broken spring or busted bellow can they be reused? Are these oil seals or grease seals? They are full of grease, but i thought I read in the manual the shafts should be oiled. Is that correct?

If the bellows is soft and not cracked, and the face is still good, it can be reused. Originally the rollers were supposed to be filled with gear lube, in later years they developed the Track and Roller grease and that became the desired lube. It is obsolete from Deere now, but Corn Head grease is the an equivalent product. Unless you have perfect seals and thrust plates, it will be hard to keep them full of gear lube.
Bushing is current from Deere as well, just put the T on the end.

scottmi,

I believe Lavoy still has oil seals available. I have bought Lavoy's seals in the past and they're great.

Hi,

85/140 is a little thin. Most are using JD Corn Head grease these days. The low pressure gun is required so one doesn't blow out the seals.
