There are a couple JD backhoe attachments currently on EBay; one is a Model 95 in Pennsylvania and the other looks like a Model 50 in Michigan.
(1) JD Straight 450 crawler dozer with manual outside blade; (2) JD 2010 diesel crawler loaders; (1) JD 2010 diesel dozer with hydraulic 6-way blade; (2) Model 50 backhoe attachments, misc. other construction equipment

I think my Model 50 weighs around 2500 pounds; it is about right for my 2010 loader which weighs around 12,000 pounds by itself. I would guess you will have a hard time keeping the front down on that smaller crawler, but I would think Lavoy would know for sure.

If it weighs 4000 lbs, you will never keep the front end on the ground. I have had guys tell me that a 350 is light on the front with one on.
Also keep in mind, if your 440 was not a hoe crawler from the factory, it is not capable of carrying a hoe.

Factory Hoe Crawler

Post by Little John » Tue Apr 03, 2007 9:50 pm

My 440IC gas is a 'from the factory' crawler loader with a scarifier (since gone) but still has the correct weights for the scarifier. Question to Lavoy is: What is the difference between a factory crawler loader equipped with a hoe and a factory crawler loader that is not equipped with a hoe ? I bought a #51 for mine many years ago and used it very little and recently sold it. It always seemed 'too heavy' for the 440 to me and it weighed 2800 lbs per the book. It was being used on a 2010 when I bought it and looked about right on that size machine. I have since thought that JD 'jumped the gun' by offering it for the 440. Certainly if you are judical in your use and transport of the hoe on your 440 you can survive it. Be sure to plumb it according to the 'JD Book' or you will suffer the fate I did and destroy your pump and/or hoe valves. I didn't 'read' the book, although I had a copy of the pertinent pages !!! Ah youth...how sweet it was...!!

A hoe crawler has a larger hyd pump, a diverter valve on the back of the loader valve box, pressure and return lines to hook the hoe up, and should have the rotating and elevating hoe seat. Also, even though they look the same from the outside, the mounts are not the same. A regular loader crawler has the "J" hooks to hold counterweights. The hooks on a hoe crawler look the same, but underneath the fender is some VERY heavy plating that goes forward to the loader frame to stand the weight and torque of the hoe. The stadard mounts use only the fender for bracing, and will not stand the torque of a hoe even if you put the rest of the parts on.
