I am kind of hurting on used track stops, especially if it is an MC or 3 roller 40. I have a few shims on hand, am planning on making them some day, just need to find the time.

I may have used ones, new ones might still be available yet too. I am working on the clamps right now.

If you have a good used one with spacers, could you send it out to me? Let me know what the cost is.

track saftey block

Post by donol60 » Tue Jun 05, 2007 10:57 am

OK you guys got me now---I have 2 JD 420s in my yard--1 JD 40,4 roller--1 JD 40, 3 roller, have worked on crawlers for years, but i must have missed or overlooked something, What is a track safety block & shims, never heard the term before, other than a wood block placed at the tracks to keep from rolling on it/s own? Thank You in advance, Don

JD40C safety block

Don
I may have mispoken whin i called them TRACK safety blocks. The parts catalog just calls them safety blocks, part# 19 & 20, page 65-2. They bolt to the rear cross bar allowing the sprocket to contact them which is suppose to stop the tractor in case the tracks become clogged. They apparently work, bothof mine are completely shot.

Usually they get worn out when the bearings go out of the final drive and the sprocket starts to rub on them and people do not replace the bearings.

Hi,

Yep. My 420c, which has lots and lots of well-maintained hours on her, has never had either sprocket come up against the safety block. Of course, she's never had the bearings run out of her, either! ;)

I don/t have a parts book, just couldn/t understand what a track saftey block was, now i know thanks to you guys on this forum. I have always thought these saftey blocks were a gaurd to keep the sprocket from pushing stones and debris against the rear roller. I have seen these blocks wornout, always an indication of bad finaldrive bearings and or a loose trackframe, or loose rock shafts. I have never seen any shims for these blocks on any machines i have or have worked on.
Thanks Much for the information, Don
