The power goes through the ammeter first then to the switch, check you wires there too.

Jeff,

Check the ammeter as well.
It should have almost no resistance when checked with a multi-meter.

Lavoy,

Would a JD voltage regulator work on a Ford 850 with a 6 volt positive ground system?

Dave,
I can't find a listing for the 850, but all of the other 6 volt fords use a different mounting style than the Deere regulator. There should be no problem getting the correct regulator for your Ford if you want one.

Lavoy,

I can find Ford regulators but the quality is horrible.
I thought that you might have a better source.

I do, yes. I have been getting some different brand regulators. I have been trying them on my stuff first, and they have been working great. They are quite pricey, but still cheaper than OEM. Unless you are having a problem with the other regulators, they are probably not worth the extra cost. I have put them on a couple of crawler that have been problem children for as long as we have had them. Finally put rebuilt generators, new light switches, and these regulators on them and solved the problem, at least for now.
