Early crawlers are on the RH front side of the engine block, later crawlers on the LH side of the bellhousing.

Is the serial number on a tag or is it stamped/cast into the casting? Thanks

Always on a metal tag.

2010 serial

Post by raceyalater » Wed Jan 06, 2010 11:01 am

Well I guess mine is missing. It looks like it was supposed to be right front on the engine block, there are two rivets there. What years am I potentially looking at for this machine. Thanks

My understanding is the serial number break between early and late 2010 crawlers is considered to be 42,000 (this was changeover for larger track pins and bushings, etc). Serial number 42,000 occurred in model year 1964, so your machine would likely be between 1962 and 1964 (no crawlers produced in 1960 or 1961).

I am not sure if 42,000 is also when they switched over from tags on the engines to the bellhousing, but Lavoy could confirm that.

This website is where I got the serial number information:
http://www.johnnypopper.com/weirddeere/ ... Wheel.html

There are other clues to serial number range (fuel injector setup for diesels, etc.) that can narrow down the earlier 2010 crawlers. The parts book is very helpful for that.

Don't feel bad- my first 2010 didn't have the serial number plate either. While it is a problem if you want to make a collectible or plan on transporting often, it really doesn't impact ability to get the correct parts or the functionality.
