1958 420c phase-III w/62 blade

Post by Stan Disbrow » Wed Oct 13, 2010 12:12 pm

Hi,

Things are changing for me once again. Looks like I'll be working in the Dallas, TX area for a while. Might even, eventually, make a permanent move. I don't know for sure yet. I just know it will be for a couple of years.

To that end, I don't think I want to be hauling dad's old 420c all over the map once more. The last time I went thru this, coming to NC from NY, the old girl wound up stuck in the back corner of a workshop for danged near a decade.

I don't want that to happen to her again, and I don't want it sitting here, unused, while I'm off elsewhere for 2-3 years.

So, I'm thinking that someone out there might want a machine that won't be a problem to restore. If so, then I have what you're looking for.

I've been thinking about letting the 420c go for the past year, anyway. I'd much rather have a JD350 instead. Heck, once I had one of those, and I like using it better than the 420c anyway. Until things changed the last time, that is.

I let the 350 go in favor of the 420c, which I can haul on my 5-ton flatbed trailer. That was when I was moving 600 miles. This time it's twice that, so I'm thinking twice here....

I won't let her go cheap, though. So, I'm going to set the asking price at $8k and we can go from there.

If anyone wants to see photos, they're in the show & tell:

Those are from this spring when I pulled it out of the barn and had not yet run the winter rust scale off of her. ;)

There is very little that is not original on her. The seat back is the most obvious, being a 2010 seat bottom. The seat bottom is the usual tractor store offering, not the thicker one it ought to have - where does one get those these days anyway? There are reinforcing plates welded onto the fenders to correct the usual cracking issues. I put in a new radiator and water pump a few years ago, but I still have the originals.

Anyway, any interest, PM or email wa2kqy at mindspring dot com

Later!

Stan

Welcome to TEXAS. I am about 200 mi. west of Dallas but I lived over there twenty five years ago and don't miss it yet. LOL

Hi,

Thanks, I think! :P

I have spent a lot of time there, so it's not going to be entirely a surprise. As it stands now, we won't be moving entirely for a while, but I will be in an apartment and be there a lot more than I am here. If the new engineering job works out, then eventually my wife can sell her business here and we can then think about making a permanent move to there. But, who knows for sure at this point?

Hi,

I'm still in Dallas, and she's still sitting in the barn back in NC. She's still available to someone looking for an original in good shape.

I'm refreshing the thread because I'm going to be back home in NC from May 27th thru June 3rd. If anyone is interested, this would be a good time to come take a look or make a deal.

As before, PM or email to wa2kqy at mindspring dot com.

later!
