JD 350B Gas, motor knock

Post by dubielj » Tue Oct 19, 2010 11:16 am

Looking at purchasing a 350B gas, manual blade, which has a very bad knock when warmed up. Sounds like a rod bearing. Everything else seems to be in good shape, carriage, pads, sprockets, steering, clutch, transmission. Is it worth repairing if I can but it for scrap metal price ($7-$800) How hard is it to get parts for this motor? Is it possible to buy a used motor? I'm in West Central Wisconsin

That is an excellent engine, parts are readily available, and that price is dirt cheap, get it home before he changes his mind.

Hi,

Shoot, they've used that basic engine in all sorts of equipment from 1965 until now. Parts are like popcorn on the floor of the movie house. Like Lavoy says, grab and go! ;)

JD 350 B engine noise

Post by dubielj » Thu Oct 21, 2010 4:02 am

Well now I think I'm looking for a motor replacement. Local mechanic started it to hear the noise, block has a hole in it now. Any chance of a complete engine or would I need to buy, block, crank etc.

I haven't bought it. Trying to find out what I'd have to pay for a motor if one was available.

I would guess a good running engine at $1500-$2000.

Check with local tractor salvage yards as well, should be same engine as 1020.

Hi,

Yep. 1020, 1030, 1520, 1530 and several other numbers I can no longer recall all used that engine.
