What is a very nice 440 IC worth?

Hey Guys,

It is not an easy decision but I am thinking about selling my 1960 440. Had a baby boy this month which is great, will need a new car in the spring, and the 440 just does not get used much anymore.

Crawler was thoroughly gone through in 2005-2006. Bottom is 90%. Many new rolls and 2 new sprockets when rebuilt. All new bearings in finals, many new bearing in transmission. New Radiator, water-pump, complete valve job (new valves/guide)....Just too many part and too much work to possibly list.

Well built brush cage. Ramsey 8000 pound winch. Gas, 5 speed. No reverser.

I'm not 100% on selling it yet but sure would appreciate a couple opinions on what one in this condition would go for. (I know it is a tough question).

With today's fuel prices, location is very important and you are just too far from west Texas for me to give very much. Also, this is just my opinion for whatever it is worth, the visable track is a little too tight.

I do not feel that all buyers do not appreciate a "gone through" machine. Yes, there are those buyers that are just waiting on the low ball deal, and they will try to scare a seller with any comment to get a low price. But then, try to buy something from them and the story changes dramatically. The machine or group of parts that was not worth much suddenly becomes VERY valuable.
You have a very nice and mechanically sound 440IC. Most of them out there would not compare to this one so it will command a higher price. An average 440 IC that runs but needs some work should bring $5-6K. Yours is much more valuable that that.
The right buyer will come along that understands that he can pay you, or he can go buy a pile of junk and who knows what it will cost him to get it all repaired and running properly.

These are a real popular collector machine in Alberta. I personally would want $7K plus for it.

Dozer are getting really scarce, too many old guys with them sitting in the shed. My dad is one of them, if he buys a green crawler it absolutely goes in the shed along with a few yellow ones. He is at over 50+ deere crawlers and 100 crawler/tractors in total.

All were runners and were drivin into the sheds. Very few are painted, he is going for quanitity. I picked up the exact machine you are posting here but with a factory winch for $4K about 15 years ago. It had brand new undercarriage. It was on consigment at the deere AG dealer, we drove two hours to the owners house with cash to ensure we were the new owners.

I think we now have 3 440 loaders and most likely 2 outside mount and 2 inside mount dozer machines. The 440 is personaly one of my favorite machines. Now looking for a 440 ICD with the 6 way hydraulic dozer. It is difficult to find them in any decent condition as most people run then into the ground. We often get the old machines in when someone comes to buy parts (We have wrecked 25+ deere crawlers) and we get them to trade it in on a runner. Just have to be patient.[/b]
