1958 420c Distributor

Post by joeturner1977 » Sat Mar 02, 2013 7:21 am

Lavoy,

My dist needs to be rebuilt. The bushing is worn and is very hard to gap the points. The shaft might even be worn. I also noticed the fly weights are rusted tight. I would also need points, condenser, breaker plate gasket, cap, rotor and wires.

Do you have assembled rebuilds available or do I have to buy the parts and do it myself?

Rebuilts are not available any more that I have found. Only thing I might have is a good used one. If yours is rebuildable, that might be your best option.

I had the same problem as you and found a rebuilt dist. at Restoration Supply Tractor Parts at www.tractorpart.com. I purchased one from them and it was completely rebuilt with bushings, points, cond., cap. Good service and good product. They also buy rebuild cores. Hope this helps.

Tractor parts has this for $200.

"John Deere M, MT, 40, 320, 330, 420, 430, 440G Rebuilt distributor with points ($30.00 credit when a good core is returned)"

I think this the way I am going to go. I dont think I could buy all the parts for less. Esspecially with rusted tight flyweights and advance springs.

Lavoy, How much for a good used one?

Thanks for the tips...
