Needed...A log arch for a 350b.

Post by Scottyb » Tue Jul 29, 2014 8:32 am

I have a winch on the way here to Saskatchewan from VT. Now I really need an arch to go with it. Any condition. I will repair one if need be however there is not a available arch to be found anywhere near here as, this is the prairies ! I will gladly have it shipped from anywhere in the USA or Canada.

Building an arch

Post by JWB Contracting » Thu Jul 31, 2014 12:11 am

If you had a set of hoe hooks and an arch off a 440 skidder and didn't mind some fabrication you could build one. The only one I have seen is already on your crawler, I have been watching and haven't seen anything out west.

I am thinking about the hoe hook fabrication, another way to achieve my goal. I am not giving up my arch, I need it at home for a long while yet. my friend had the same storm ruin his forest and I am putting together a crawler with a arch to help out my neighbours without mine leaving home. Bent provided the 350b for this new set up, and the first job is just down the road from him. My hockey pal Archie needs a few hundred trees dragged from around his house to burn piles. We will have another "lumberjack Weekend" where we will ask a dozen or so friends to help out for a few days over the weekend. Safety training, and zero alcohol rules are the norm although, after 5, we will shut down, light a fire , get out the guitars and cocktails and have a party.

Jason, I am sure that if you have not seen another arch then they are few and far between. I am grateful and happy that you found mine for me.
It has been awesome using my deeres to clean up our forest and, with many weakened trees, we are out after every big wind cleaning up more. Our place is now looking awesome, Still trees standing that the storm missed, with clearing where the sun now shines through. The parents place next door still needs a lot of work but, it is all coming along nice!

Old skidder

Post by JWB Contracting » Thu Jul 31, 2014 9:46 pm

There has to be some old deere skidders in your area. You might find one for the price of an arch and winch. I sold the last 440 I had I sold for 6,500 and it was in pretty good shape.

Much quicker than a crawler and cheaper to run. The old Deeres are Cadillacs compared to competitors machines.

This looks similar to the 3600 that I have, (not for sale), a bit hokey looking where the roller support is welded on, but would probably be OK for a 350?
