Model 40 with loader and winch

Post by pstanley@shaw.ca » Fri Aug 08, 2014 9:37 am

Hello. I would like a little feedback on what a JD Model 40 is worth. I am helping a friend who isn't internet friendly. My friend has been selling off items he has picked up over the years, and needs to move some of the big things do to Leukemia. He and his wife contacted me because I go to tractor shows and visit websites all the time.

This is the description his wife sent to me: Info: 1947 JD Model 40, 5 roller, gasoline engine, 2 cylinder, with Gearmatic winch model 8A - works well, with Shawnee loader. Engine runs well, under carriage is worn.

I was on Yesterdays Tractors asking about the value and was told it couldn't be a 1947 because of the 5 rollers.

He isn't a collector, and doesn't restore items, but he keeps them maintained and in running order and in a shed.[/img]

It can't be a 47 regardless, first year of the 40 was 1953, and only three roller crawlers built in that year. His would have to be 54 or 55.

Yep. I got the serial number from him and it's a 1954.
