Looking for JD450 throttle cable

Post by speedbear » Sun Apr 05, 2015 8:42 pm

Anyone know where I can find a throttle cable for my 450??. I recently purchased the machine, but found the cable is seized/rusted pretty bad.
I get very little movement to the pump.

Unless you can find something like a PTO cable at a truck shop that will work, pretty much a Deere only item that I know of.

The original cable has too many bends in it. The pump is on the left side & the cable control is on the right side of the gauge panel. It would make sense to me to mount the throttle control on the left side of the gauges, so the cable is inline with the pump. Any thoughts on this?

Cable repair

I attach a hose over one end of the cable and clamp it down with a hose clamp, spray in some fluid film and then insert and clamp down our air blower nozzle and apply some pressure. I go from the pump end. You know it's working if it takes more air after sitting over night. Will not fix all cables. I have 2 machines on deck that will get this treatment shortly.

Normally the cables just get rusted up. My dad would soak the cables in oil, but this is much faster. About half of the machines we get in have sticky throttle cables. Much quicker and cheaper than replacement.

After market cables often require building a new mount for the pump end but can be done. I have even seen choke cables used.
