Hi !
I just got myself a nice John-Deere 690-B 1980 in TOP shape !
8,542 hrs ( real ) ,tracks (large 30") , sprocket , idler brand new used for 100 hrs bucket is almost new too !
This machine was on the railroad maintenance on iron wheels that is why the tracks are new ! and the maintenance had been performed properly at all time .

In there day nothing could out dig a 690B. that is a classic for sure I had one years ago with the first pilot controls in the area .With pilot controls they were 20% faster .I had the 690B and a 490 nothing would out dig either machine they both got 12000 plus hours in six years. My big brother ran one and little brother ran the other .The 690 B was the best the 690Cs weren't as great and 690Ds were full of little gremlins and quirks one started to swing on it's own at around 8;30 in the morning and swung by it's self till 11;30 in the night in Guelph area Deere made 690Es for a while but were just JUNK! We went to a 790D right after the 690B and have ran several of them into the ground since now we have a two 120s a 490E a790DLC a 790E LC and a 270DLC as well as two Link Belts .We dropped out of the larger machines a few years ago but got right back in with a vengeance two years ago .Is your 690 B the long leavers or the stubby pilot controls .The last two years of 690Bs had pilot's optional Deere went full pilot after that in the Cs.Digitup.

excavator with weak traction power
Hi !
Gee you have a big fleet of excavtor !! thank you for your information
about that beast being a good machine !! I really appreciate your help and knowledge .
The one I have is with the long lever !
6404T 6 cyl turbo 131 hp
the problem I have right now is weak traction at least on one side
maybe both hard to tell but for sure one side goes a lot better than the other one, I change all the oil all over (motor, hydraulic, brake, planetaries)
I had one side that the break was dry so I removed both traction motor I clean everything well put back the motor and fill the brake with brand new oil , I started the beast and tried the traction , it ran well for 10 minutes after that it seems that the weak traction problem came back , so I do believe the the problem is somewhere else !!!
neither motors are oveheating , don't see any leak anywhere around the motors and the hoses, slight noise on one motor but doesn't seem to grind or anything , I had the hydraulic oil temp that lit for a second or two and then went out and didn't lit again .
So if you have an idea of waht is going on please let me know !
regards

There is a spot in there on the top of both pumps that you can adjust and synchronize them I don't know how to do it I get some one else to do it .when you try to track forward do the tracks turn equal or do you have to keep it from tracking around in big circles .When the pumps are set right it tracks straight in the direction you aim it .dose your excavator track straight forward or reverse .Digitup.

traction problem
Hi !
Guy's thank you for the tips I found a mecanic who can do that .
I also received the book that I ordered for fixing that beast thank's to internet !!! very good book for a fraction of the price !!
yes one of the track is going faster than the other so I always have to compensate for it .
Last evening I was able to bring the beast close to the sugar house so I will have acces to electricity so I can perform some repair more efficiently .
again thank you all for the help !
