T5 IH wide gauge crawler

Post by Lavoy » Mon Nov 23, 2015 3:58 pm

Okay, not green, so definitely off topic, but it does have tracks. I happened to come into possession of an IH T5 wide gauge crawler. From what little I have found, scarce as hens teeth. I just don't have time to add another crawler to the "to be restored before I die list", which in all likelihood will become the "for sale by widow list" at the rate I am going.
Anybody have an idea on value or any interest in the machine?

Hi,

Wow. That would be a great thing to haul to shows. The IH crowd around here never has a TracTractor of any sort, much less a Super R(are)....

I am too broke to tackle a restoration at this time, tho....

Try over on Red Power to get an idea of value. If you are not a member let me know and I'll ask.

Hi,

This brings up a question: who all on here know the IH crawlers?

That then spawns a couple more questions:

Is there an IH Crawler site? If not, should there be one?

I have to say that I see precious few IH crawlers anywhere. Yet I think they made lots of them.....

International Crawlers

Post by JWB Contracting » Fri Nov 27, 2015 10:10 pm

We have a few, mostly non running projects.

We have an T5 narrow, old restoration. A few TD6's, a couple TD35's and a international / hough crawler loader which is very rare.

I think we are going to work on the TD35's next. One turns but can't started is as something is wrong with the decompression and another seized one.

I'm not a member, if you would see what info you can find out I would appreciate it.
My brother had a T6, TD9, T340 narrow gauge, and a T340 standard gauge, both with 3PT hitch. Had a T20, but sold that a while back. I will have the crawler home next week and post some pics.

Stan, the Redpower site has a construction forum so that's kind covered. When IH got into financial trouble they sold odd the construction division to Dresser. A few years later Komatsu bought our dresser. Komatsu basically ended parts support for the T and TD series tractors. Notably track, undercarriage and most engine parts are not supported at all. And the gas start diesel IH used was prone to head cracking issues because of operator error. New heads are not available. Case IH offers little support for the engines although some of those engines were used in farm tractors too. I believe it was the TD6 and MD (M diesel) shared the same engine and then the WD9/650 diesels ere shared with the TD9. So they are desirable for collectors but few are still being used.

Lavoy: I posted over there and will let you know what I find out.

Without pictures I'm getting told between 500 in poor condition non runner to 2K maybe a little more if it's really nice. Pictures and knowing if it runs, drive and steers like it should will help.

Wow, I would scrap it before I sold it for that. Just saw a T340 bring over $8000, so I think they are a little off. Thanks for checking, will get a pic posted so you guys can see it.

Scrap prices are in the cellar right now so it might just save a few of these older crawlers from becoming Chinese steel.

I thought it was a little off too. Especially in this area (East ND and northern MN) where crawler prices are pretty good. I'm a member of the ACMOC site too. Like here they have a place to place ads. Down in some southern areas a running D4 7U like mine is a 3K machine. Heck, out in ID in sept I could have purchased a running D6 new enough to have the hard nose and hydraulic blade, about 50% on the undercarriage for 2500. Here, this area you can add a couple of K to that. I'd really like to have a little 2 cylinder JD crawler but prices in this area are more than I'm willing to spend. I saw a 1010 crawler loader, really poor under carriage, sell at auction for 4500 a few years ago.

SOOO, here the old girl is. Took a couple laps in the driveway, no idea how long it has been since it ran.

Kind of cute...Not a bad looking machine. Pretty much all we see around here are a few TD6 or TD9's....and they are red.

Hi,

That would be nice to take to shows. I see Cats and Oliver and AC and even Terratrac around here. But no IH ones, even though IH has a large club.

Of course, Deere crawlers outnumber them all. :)

Is there a blade with that. Looks like there is a frame, or part of one. Hard for me to tell for sure.

Blade is gone, mounts and cylinders are still there. Seems odd to have had a blade on a wide gauge crawler, but it should have turned well under load.
