I'm working on another tractor and it's about time to start reassembly. I was wondering what some of you used to add a little extra seal to gaskets.
Any paper gasket, I put a light film of oil and I usually have good luck.
Even though the gaskets are new, I feel like it might be worthwhile to add a little extra sealant. The tractor is older and leaks absolutely drive me crazy.
I used to have some Loctite brand that was in a syringe type applicator that I liked but I can't find it anywhere. It would harden and created an excellent bond.
I can't stand the silicone style permatex stuff. Permatex does have some hardening type sealants that look like they might work well.
Yamaha has a factory sealant, as well as Subaru and those are both hardening types and seem to be extremely good quality however I'm out of those also.
What are your thoughts.

I use "The Right Stuff" from NAPA made by Permatex. Skip the whole gasket, it will fill a gap up to .090". We use it on all the OTR trucks and Ag equipment. Differential covers etc. We haven't had any call-backs and we have been using it for several years. It does use a small chaulking gun. I strongly dislike silicone derivatives. Bruce

I use Copper head shellac. I paint it on one side of gasket and apply luberiplate grease to the other side. If you ever want to take it apart to check something it comes apart easily and you can reassemble it a few times without replacing gasket
High Tack is a gasket adhesive, pretty much only thing I use if I use a gasket, other than exhaust, then a copper spray of some sort. If not gasket, Right Stuff exclusively. As to the oil trick, I would not do that. Once you have oiled a surface next to a gasket, you have just created a path for more oil.
