A hard lesson in proper dozering...
A few years ago I got a grant from the USDA to build a road across my property to get to a distant field. I cannot say God forgot to shut off the faucet that year because he does not make mistakes, but he did leave the hose running that if for sure. IT WAS WET!
As we built the roadway, the trucks would back in and I would take the excavator and flatten it out, but despite good sized rock, it was not holding the trucks up and they would sink out of sight. The contractor doing this finally asked me what I was doing. I told him and he was like "no, no, no, you need to use the dozer. Flatten off the gravel then steer with it. Let the tracks work those rocks into place like a jigsaw puzzle". I was doubtful, but on the next load did what he said. The truck backed up clear to the end of the gravel I had just spread. It was an amazing difference!
The man has been building roads since 1954 (81 years old) and knows how to build them. A few years ago they stopped him from building roads in town and got this young kid doing it and he does not even have a dozer, he uses an excavator using it just as I was.
Now in town both roads they built are starting to break up. The section the old duffer did was built in 1983 and is just now starting to break apart. The young kid built his in 2011 and that too looks similar.
Sometimes you just need a dozer. They have their place! I saw that first hand' in my road and now in the towns roads.

I have no intention of traveling to my grave in a well manicured body; instead I am going to slide into heaven with a big power turn, totally wore out with busted knuckles, jump off my dozer loudly yelling, Woo Hoo, another Shepard has just arrived!
Hard to beat a dozer layering in fill.
