It has a voltage regulator separate from the alternator....is not charging and need to know how to test voltage regulator and alternator.

Hi,
The ignition switch feeds power to the cut-out of the regulator. Make sure there is power there first. Then, the regulator feeds power to the field coil of the alternator. Check that line with a voltmeter and see. If you don't have power there, the regulator is bad. If you do, then the alternator is bad.
