How many others have had their crawlers for decades?

Post by Stan Disbrow » Thu Sep 14, 2017 6:13 am

Hi,

I was writing a reply just a few minutes ago, and mentioned having my 420c since 1966. Well, first my Dad, of course, and me since 1996. But, that is Close Enough even if we're not talking Horseshoes or Hand Grenades.... ;)

Anyway, that got me to wondering how many others here have had their crawlers for decades as opposed to years....

5 decades here and still counting.

First crawler we bought as far as two cylinder was about 30 years ago, still have it. Grandpa and Dad both farmed with crawlers, so earliest I can guess there is late 20's to early 30's so bumping 90 years. Only a couple small old parts left off of Grandpa's 28 Cat, but unfortunately we were never able to trace where it went, or Dad's TD9. We did however get one of our shirt tail relatives TD9 many years ago at his sale, and that one would have been on his place since new I believe.

We have always had dozers kicking around, a 1010 being the first in my memory bank, but it was sold 10 years ago. An old Cletrack was what my father grew up on, and what he wants, one to rebuild to its former glory. Like me he has the bulldozer bug. A secret fetish of mine is tracks, I have always wanted to have my own track press and work on tracks. Around here only the dealers have them and they charge plenty. I always thought between farming and rebuilding tracks, maybe a man could do alright???

We still have the remnants of a Fordson Trackson conversion kit kicking around by the old barn, but I am not sure that it counts.
I have no intention of traveling to my grave in a well manicured body; instead I am going to slide into heaven with a big power turn, totally wore out with busted knuckles, jump off my dozer loudly yelling, Woo Hoo, another Shepard has just arrived!

Bought my 2010 in May of 1975. In 2006 I found and purchased my Dad's 40c that he bought new in 1955 and sold in 1964.
